It was a sunny morning in Wales when we packed the car, crammed in the gear, and set off on our journey to Ilfracombe.

Fast forward to the next day: still sunny, now in Devon,  with a distinct lack of sleep after a night of tossing and turning over whether we’d remembered all the essentials—camera batteries, memory cards, and the like. Spoiler alert: we had, but at 4 a.m., every photographer starts doubting their life or at least packing  choices.

First stop: the groom’s HQ. Kat and Gareth had another professional wedding photographer for the day, but they'd asked us to capture some behind-the-scenes candid moments. Candid is our bread and butter, so of course, we were game!

When we arrived, the boys were mid-breakfast, tossing around the idea of a pre-wedding swim. Because nothing says "ready for my close-up" like diving into freezing British waters, right? Off we trundled through the windy tunnel down to the most beautiful beach—Tunnels Beach, Ilfracombe really knows how to impress. The boys, clad in little more than speedos, sprinted into the cool waters, and let me tell you, those shots of them laughing like schoolboys scream camaraderie. The water wasn’t exactly tropical, but it turns out adrenaline is a solid substitute for heating.

Now, on to the main event! The wedding was as dreamy as you’d imagine. Kat looked stunning in her white gown, and Gareth scrubbed up well too—though it was hard to top his beach sprint in swimwear. As the sun set and the celebrations carried on, the speeches had everyone howling, and the father-daughter dance left not a dry eye in sight.

And then there was the first dance. Now, if you told me they’d been practising with the Royal Ballet, I wouldn’t have questioned it. Gareth was twirling, spinning, and lifting Kat like he’d been born to hit the dancefloor. I’m pretty sure I saw a pirouette or two. One of our favourite shots from the day has to be the moment when Gareth, mid-spin, pulled Kat into his arms, and they burst into laughter. Pure joy.

As the night wound down, the guests gathered with sparklers, ready to send the happy couple off in style. They twirled and waved, lighting a shimmering path for the newlyweds—a picture-perfect ending to a perfect day.

And so, with memory cards backed up and much-needed sleep in sight, we packed up, smiling at the thought of the day’s magic. It was a truly unforgettable wedding, one we’ll always cherish.
